ANTISPASMODICS: Tiemonium Methylsulphate

Indication

Onium (Tiemonium Methylsulphate INN) is an antispasmodic drug. It reduces muscle spasms of the intestine, biliary system, bladder and uterus. Onium (Tiemonium Methylsulphate INN) is indicated for pain in gastrointestinal and biliary diseases and in urology and gynaecology such as Gastroenteritis, Diarrhoea, Dysentery, Biliary Colic, Enterocolitis, Cholecystitis, Colonopathies, Mild Cystitis and Spasmodic Dysmenorrhoea.

Contraindication

Onium (Tiemonium Methylsulphate INN) should not be used in Glaucoma (acute pain of eyeball with vision disturbances), difficulty to urinate (disorders of prostate or bladder).

Dosage & Administration

Onium Tablet: In adults the usual oral dosage is 2 to 6 tablets (100-300 mg Tiemonium Methylsulphate INN) daily in divided doses as required. Onium Injection: In adults the usual dosage is 1 ampoule of Onium (Tiemonium Methylsulphate INN 5 mg) by slow IV or IM injection 3 times per day.Onium Syrup: Children: 1.5 to 3.0 ml/kg body weight daily in divided doses. Adult: 15 to 45 ml three times daily.

Side Effect

Onium (Tiemonium Methylsulphate INN) may have some undesirable effects in certain individuals like patients with risk of hypotension and tachycardia specially when the route of administration is injection.

Drug Interaction

Tiemonium Methylsulphate tablet should not be used with other drugs without prior consult of a registered physician to avoid possible drug interaction.

Presentation

Onium Tablet: 5 x 10’s tablets in blister pack.
Onium IV/IM Injection: 1 x 5\\\’s ampoules in blister pack.
Onium Syrup 50 ml: 50 ml syrup in a PET bottle with a 5 ml measuring dropper.Onium Syrup 100 ml: 100 ml syrup in a PET bottle with a 10 ml measuring cup.
