1. What is Carnovas HZ®?
Carnovas HZ® (5/12.5 mg Tablet) is a single pill combination (SPC) antihypertensive consisting of 5mg nebivolol (a third generation beta blocker) and 12.5mg hydrochlorothiazide.

2. How Carnovas HZ® works in our body?
Nebivolol works at the heart by blocking the β1 receptors which decreases the heart rate and myocardial contractility. Carnovas also work at the endothelium by stimulating endothelial nitric oxide (NO) synthase which increases Nitric Oxide release and decreases peripheral vascular resistance.
Two actions causing synergistic anti-hypertensive effect.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic. It acts by increasing the amount of urine produced.

3. What is the indication of Carnovas HZ®?
Carnovas HZ® is indicated for
Hypertension: The combination of Nebivolol and Hydrochlorothiazide is indicated for the treatment of raised blood pressure (hypertension). It is used instead of the two separate products for those patients who are already taking them together. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular events, primarily strokes and myocardial infarctions.

4. What are the dosage & administration of Carnovas HZ®?
Hypertension: Initial dosage is one tablet once daily preferably at the same time.

5. What are the contraindications of Carnovas HZ®?
Contraindications
Carnovas® is contraindicated in the following conditions:

  • Severe bradycardia
  • Heart block greater than first degree
  • Patients with cardiogenic shock
  • Decompensated cardiac failure
  • Sick sinus syndrome (unless a permanent pacemaker is in place)
  • Patients with severe hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh >B)
  • Hypersensitive to any component of this product
  • Patients with serious circulation problems in the arms or legs
  • Untreated phaeochromocytoma, a tumour located on top of the kidneys (in the adrenal glands)
  • Patient with a metabolic disorder (metabolic acidosis), e.g., diabetic ketoacidosis
  • Asthma or wheezing
  • High blood calcium, low blood potassium, low blood sodium levels that are persistent and resistant to treatment
  • High uric acid levels with gout symptoms

6. What are the adverse effects of Carnovas HZ®?
Most common adverse reactions reported with Nebivolol:
Headache, fatigue, dizziness, tiredness, an unusual burning, pricking, tickling, or tingling sensation, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, shortness of breath, swollen hands or feet.
Most common adverse reactions reported with Hydrochlorothiazide:
Allergic reactions: Whole-body allergic reaction (anaphylactic reaction)
Heart and circulation: Heart rhythm disturbances, palpitations, changes in the electrocardiogram, sudden fainting when standing upright, formation of blood clots in veins (thrombosis) and embolism, circulatory collapse (shock).

Keep in a dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light. Keep out of the reach of children.
