1. What is Xelocin®?
Xelocin® is an anti-metabolite chemotherapeutic agent.
2. How Xelocin® works in our body?
Xelocin® converts into 5-Fluorouracil that inhibits the production of the cancerous cells of both DNA and protein that are necessary for the cells to divide and the cancer to grow in size.
3. What are the indications of Xelocin®?
Breast Cancer, Colon Cancer.
4. What are the dosage & administration of Xelocin®?
- Take Xelocin® with water within 30 min after a meal
- Monotherapy: 1250 mg/m2 twice daily orally for 2 weeks followed by a one-week rest period in 3-week cycles
- Adjuvant treatment is recommended for a total of 6 months (8 cycles)
- In combination with Taxedol® (Docetaxel), the recommended dose of Xelocin® is 1250 mg/m2 twice daily for 2 weeks followed by a 7-day rest period, combined with Taxedol® (Docetaxel) at 75 mg/m2 as a 1-hour IV infusion every 3 weeks
5. What are the contraindications of Xelocin®?
- Severe Renal Impairment
- Hypersensitivity
6. What are the adverse effects of Xelocin®?
Most common adverse reactions (≥30%) were diarrhea, hand-and-foot syndrome, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue/weakness, and hyperbilirubinemia.
7. What would be the storage condition of Xelocin®?
Store at 25°C (77°F); excursions permitted to 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F). Keep tightly closed. Keep in a dry place and away from the reach of children.
