1. What is Taxedol®?
It belongs to a group of drugs called taxanes, which is clinically well established anti-mitotic chemotherapy medication.
2. How Taxedol® works in our body?
Taxedol® inhibits microtubular de-polymerization and attenuation of the effects of bcl-2 & bcl-xL gene expression thus hyper stabilizes the structure and causes apoptosis.
3. What are the indications of Taxedol®?
Breast Cancer, Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC), Hormone Refractory Prostate Cancer, Gastric Adenoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma of Head & Neck.
4. What are the dosage & administration of Taxedol®?
Breast Cancer | Locally Advanced or Metastatic | 60 mg/m2 to 100 mg/m2 single agent |
Adjuvant | 75 mg/m2 administered 1 hour after doxorubicin 50 mg/m2 and cyclophosphamide 500 mg/m2 every 3 weeks for 6 cycles | |
Non-Small Cell lung Cancer (NSCLC) | After Platinum therapy failure | 75 mg/m2 single agent |
Chemotherapy Naive | 75 mg/m2 followed by cisplatin 75 mg/m2 | |

5. What are the contraindications of Taxedol®?
- Hypersensitivity to docetaxel or polysorbate 80
- Neutrophil counts of <1500 cells/mm3
6. What are the adverse effects of Taxedol®?
Most common adverse reactions across all docetaxel indications are:
Infections, neutropenia, anemia, febrile neutropenia, hypersensitivity, thrombocytopenia, neuropathy, dysgeusia, dyspnea, constipation, anorexia, nail disorders, fluid retention, asthenia, pain, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, mucositis, alopecia, skin reactions, myalgia.
7. What would be the storage condition of Taxedol®?
Store between 2°C and 25°C (36°F and 77°F). Retain in the original package to protect from bright light. Freezing does not adversely affect the product.
After initial puncture, Docetaxel Injection multiple dose vials are stable for 28 days when stored between 2°C to 8°C and at room temperature, with or without protection from light.
