1. What Pretin® is and what it is used for?
Pretin® is a potent, rapidly effective and long-acting non-sedative, histamine H1 receptor antagonist, with anti-allergic properties. Each Pretin® tablet contains 10 mg of Loratadine USP.
Pretin® is indicated for
- Seasonal allergic rhinitis
- Perennial allergic rhinitis
- Sneezing, rhinorrhoea & itching
- Ocular itching and burning
- Chronic urticaria & other allergic dermatologic disorders
2. Before you take Pretin®
Do not take this medicine and tell your doctor if:
Hypersensitivity to any component of this product
Taking other medicines
There are no reports of potentially hazardous interactions with other drugs to date.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Although loratadine was not found to be teratogenic in animals, but the safe use of loratadine during pregnancy has not been established and there have been no case reports of any adverse foetal consequences. So it should be used only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus.
Like other H1 receptor antagonists, loratadine is also excreted in breast milk. So lactating mothers are advised not to take the drug.
3. How to take Pretin®?
Always use Pretin® exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
How much to take?
Adult and children above 12 years of age: 10 mg (1 Pretin® tablet) once-a-day.
Children: 6 – 12 yrs: 10 mg (1 Pretin® tablet) once-a-day.
2 – 5 yrs: 5 mg (1/2 Pretin® tablet) once-a-day.
If you forget to take Pretin®
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. However, if it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
4. Possible side effects
Side effects of Pretin® include:
CNS effects (including sedation) and anticholinergic activity.
5. How to store Pretin® ?
Store in a cool & dry place, away from children.
