1. What Irigon is and what it is used for?
Irigon (glycine irrigation solution) BP is a sterile, non-pyrogenic, non-electrolyte and hypotonic aqueous solution of glycine intended for urologic irrigation during transurethral and bladder surgery procedures. Each 100 ml contains 1.5 gram of glycine in water for irrigation purpose only. Irigon is indicated as irrigating fluid of choice in:

  • Transurethral resection of prostate.
  • Endoscopic procedures within the urinary tract.
  • Urinary bladder surgery etc.

2. Before you take Irigon?
Do not take this medicine and tell your doctor if:

Irigon is not for injection in any route. It is contraindicated in patients with anuria.

Take special care with Irigon
Check with your doctor before taking this medicine if:

Patients with cardiovascular disease should be evaluated after transurethral resection of prostate using glycine. Care should be exercised if the liver or kidney is impaired.

Taking other medicines
Additives may be incompatible. When introducing additives, use aseptic technique, mix thoroughly and do not store.

3. How to take Irigon
Taking this medicine. Always use Irigon exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

How much to take?
The total volume of solution used for irrigation depends on the judgment of the attending surgeon. Height from the operating table of 60 cm (approx. 2ft) is likely to cause increased intravascular absorption of glycine.

4. Possible side effects
Large intravenous doses of glycine are known to cause nausea and salivation. Other consequences of systemic absorption of glycine include electrolyte loss, diuresis, edaema, thirst, dehydration, cardiovascular and pulmonary disorders.

5. How to store Irigon?
Store at controlled room temperature, protect from light and heat.
