Bexovid

Generic Name: Nirmatrelvir and Ritonavir
Dosage Form: Combipack
TG Name: Antiviral

1. What is Bexovid®?
Bexovid® is a combipack of Nirmatrelvir and Ritonavir tablets. Bexovid is used to treat mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in adults and children (12 years of age and older weighing at least 40 kg).

2. How Bexovid® works in our body?
Bexovid® is a combination of Nirmatrelvir and a low dose of ritonavir. Nirmatrelvir disrupts the replication of SARS-CoV-2 in the body by binding to the 3CL-like protease, an enzyme crucial to the virus’ function and reproduction. Ritonavir inhibits the CYP3A-mediated metabolism of Nirmatrelvir, resulting in increased plasma concentrations of Nirmatrelvir.

3. What is the indication of Bexovid®?
Bexovid® is indicated for mild-to-moderate COVID-19 positive adult and pediatric patients (12 years of age and older weighing at least 40 kg), who are at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19, including hospitalization or death.

4. What are the dosage & administration of Bexovid®?

Bexovid consists of 2 medicines: nirmatrelvir and ritonavir.

  • Take 2 tablets of nirmatrelvir with 1 tablet of ritonavir by mouth 2 times each day (in the morning and in the evening) for 5 days. For each dose, take all 3 tablets at the same time
  • If you have kidney disease, talk to your healthcare provider. You may need a different dose

5. What are the contraindications of Bexovid®?

  • History of clinically significant hypersensitivity reactions to the active ingredients (Nirmatrelvir or Ritonavir) or any other components
  • Co-administration with drugs highly dependent on CYP3A for clearance and for which elevated concentrations are associated with serious and/or life-threatening reactions

6. What are the adverse effects of Bexovid®?
Adverse events (incidence ≥1% and ≥5 subject difference) were dysgeusia, diarrhea, hypertension, and myalgia.

7. What if one is pregnant or breastfeeding?
There is no experience treating pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers with Bexovid. For a mother and unborn baby, the benefit of taking Bexovid may be greater than the risk from the treatment. If someone is pregnant, discuss the specific situation with healthcare provider.

If someone is breastfeeding, discuss the options and specific situation with healthcare provider.

8. What would be the storage condition of Bexovid®?
Do not store above 30° C. Keep in a dry place. Protect from light and keep out of the reach of children.
