Alfa-E (Vitamin E)

Presentation:
Alfa-E tablet: Each crackable & chewable tablet contains Vitamin E BP (alpha Tocopherol Acetate) 200 mg.
Indications:
As a dietary supplement and for prophylactic use: To meet raised requirements e.g. pregnancy and lactation period, high dietary intake of polyunsaturated fatty acids,etc. for prevention of Vitamin E deficiency due to malabsorption syndromes caused by pancreatic, hepatobiliary and gastro-intestinal disorders, for the prevention of several degenerative consequences of oxidation of LDL like atherosclerosis, coronary heart diseases to delay the onset of age related health problems etc:
It is also indicated for reduction of nitrate tolerance in patients with angina & myocardial infarction taking continuous Nitrate therapy as a supportive therapy in Dupuytrens\’ contracture, male infertility etc.
Dosage & Administration:
Dosage varies according to individuals\’ need. The following dosages are recommended in different indications:

Contrainidications:
There is no absolute contraindication.
Warning & Precautions:
Vitamin E may enhance the anticoagulant activity of anticoagulant drugs. Caution is advised in premature infants with high dose Vitamin E supplementation, because of reported risk of necrotizing enterocilitis.
Side effects:
Nausea, flatulence or diarrhoea may occur. High dose Vitamin E (generally more than 400 mg daily) has been associated with a variety of minor side effects, including hypertension, fatigue, diarrhoea, myopathy and thrombophlebitis.
Drug interaction:
High doses of Vitamin E can impair intestinal absorption of Vitamin A & K.
Use in special groups:
Use in pregnancy: Vitamin E may be used in pregnancy in the normally recommended dose but the safety of high dose therapy has not been established.
Use in lactation: There appears to be no contraindication to breast feeding by mothers taking the normally recommended dose.
