1. What Relentus® is and what it is used for?
Relentus® (Tizanidine Hydrochloride) is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant
It is used in the symptomatic treatment of painful muscle spasm associated with musculoskeletal conditions and as an adjunct in the management of spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis or spinal cord disorders.
2. Before you take Relentus®
Do not take this medicine and tell your doctor if:
Before taking Relentus®, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: low blood pressure, kidney disease, liver disease.
This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Avoid alcoholic beverages.
Take special care with Relentus®
Check with your doctor before taking this medicine if:
Relentus® Hydrochloride is contraindicated to the patients who have known hypersensitivity to this drug and in case of severe hepatic impairment.
Taking other medicines
Relentus® should not be used with ciprofloxacin, amiodarone, cimetidine, oral contraceptives, acyclovir and fluvoxamine. These medications can slow down the breakdown of Relentus® and lead to increased sedation, drowsiness and slowed reflexes
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Relentus® has no teratogenic effects in rats and rabbits. As there have been no controlled studies in pregnant women, it should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefit clearly outweighs the risk. Although only small amounts of Relentus® are excreted in animal milk, lactating women should not take Relentus®.
3. How to take Relentus®?
Initially take 2 – 4 mg by mouth every 6 to 8 hours for up to 3 doses in 24 hours. Increase by 2 to 4 mg until satisfactory response is achieved; however, the maximum dose is 36 mg per day.
If you forget to take Relentus®
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. If it is almost time for your next dose, do not take the missed dose. Take the next dose on time
If you stop taking Relentus®
Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor. You should not stop taking Relentus® just because you feel better. This is because the problem may come back or get worse again.

4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, Relentus® can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Relentus® Hydrochloride may cause drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, gastrointestinal disturbances, hypotension. Bradycardia, insomnia, hallucinations and altered liver enzymes, and rarely acute hepatitis have also been reported.
5. How to store Relentus®?
Store in a cool and dry place, away from light.
