VITAMINS & MINERALS: Zinc Sulphate
Indication
Zinc is essential for the correction of Zinc deficiency problems like growth retardation, decreased taste and smell, alopecia, dermatitis, diarrhoea, immunological dysfunction, failure to thrive, gonadal atrophy, impaired spermatogenesis and congenital malformation.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to Zinc, abdominal pain and gastrointestinal disturbances.
Dosage & Administration
The recommended dose for Children is 2 to 2.5mg/kg/day.
Pep® syrup: Child under 10 kg: 5 to 6 teaspoonfuls daily in divided oral doses.
Child over 10 kg: 5 to 6 teaspoonfuls 1 to 3 times daily (oral).
Pep®-2 syrup: Child under 10 kg: 1 to 2 teaspoonful daily in divided oral doses.
Child over 10 kg: 2 teaspoonful 1 to 3 times daily (oral).
Pep®-20 syrup: Child under 10 kg: 1 teaspoonful daily once or in divided oral doses
Child over 10 kg: 1 teaspoonful 1 to 2 times daily (oral).
Adult & child over 30 kg: 2 teaspoonfuls 1 to 2 times daily (oral).
Pep®-20 tablet: One tablet 1 to 3 times daily (oral).
or as recommended by the physician.
Side Effect
Side effects of Zinc salts are abdominal pain and dyspepsia.
Drug Interaction
May decrease the absorption of other drugs such as tetracycline antibiotics, bisphosphonates and quinolone antibiotics.
Food may decrease absorption of this medicine into bloodstream.

Pregnancy category C. Safety for use in pregnancy has not been established.
Overdosage
Zinc Sulphate is corrosive in overdose. Symptoms are corrosion and inflammation of the mucous membrane of the mouth and stomach. In case of overdosing, demulcents such as milk should be given and chelating agent e.g. Sodium Edetate may be useful.

Store at room temperature (Below 25 oC). Away from light and moisture.
