Presentation
Nystaderm Cream: Each gram of cream contains Nystatin BP 100,000 IU & Chlorhexidine Hydrochloride BP 10 mg.
Description
Nystatin is a fungistatic and fungicidal antifungal primarily effective against Candida albicans. Chlorhexidine has activity against a wide range of bacteria. Nystatin is poorly absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract. It is not absorbed through the skin or mucous membranes when applied topically.
Indications
It is used to treat skin infections caused by either fungi and/or bacteria, such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, and infected nappy rash.
Dosage & Administration
For external use only.
Children and adults: Apply 2-3 times a day, continuing for 7 days after lesions have healed. If the infected area has not improved within seven days of starting treatment, the patient has to consult with a doctor. If the condition does not improve within 14 days of starting treatment, or if a new infection appears, the patient should stop using Nystaderm Cream and consult with a doctor. An alternative treatment may be needed.
Side Effects
Common side effects: allergic skin reactions such as dermatitis, pruritus, erythema, eczema, rash, and skin irritation.
Rare side effects: severe allergic reactions, leading to a drop in blood pressure and even unconsciousness.
Precautions
Avoid contact with the eyes. If sensitivity occurs, or if new infection appears, discontinue use and institute alternative treatment. Nystaderm cream contains chlorhexidine. Chlorhexidine is known to induce hypersensitivity, including generalized allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock. Nystaderm cream should not be administered to anyone with.
Use in Pregnancy & Lactation
Nystatin and chlorhexidine cream should not be used by pregnant or breast-feeding mothers. If anyone thinks that she may be pregnant or is planning to have a baby, she should consult with a doctor before taking this medication.
Drug Interaction
There are no known drug interactions.
Over Dose
Nystatin is poorly absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract. In the event of accidental oral ingestion, routine measures such as gastric lavage should be performed as soon as possible after ingestion.
Storage
Do not store above 30 ºC. Keep away from light and out of the reach of children.
