Presentation

Intafenac K : Each tablet contains Diclofenac Potassium BP 50 mg.

Description

Intafenac K is an immediate release tablet of Diclofenac Potassium that works by blocking the action of a substance in the body called cyclo-oxygenase. Cyclo-oxygenase is involved in the production of various chemicals in the body, some of which are known as prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are produced in response to injury or certain diseases and would otherwise go on to cause pain, swelling and inflammation.

Indications

– A form of arthritis affecting the joints of the spine (ankylosing spondylitis)

– Acute gout

– Crystal deposition in the joints (pyrophosphate arthropathy) and other joint disorders

– Disorders of the muscles and skeleton, such as tendon inflammation (tendinitis), sprains, strains, dislocations, fractures

– Inflammatory disease of the joints (rheumatoid arthritis)

– Lower back pain

– Osteoarthritis

– Pain and inflammation in dental, orthopaedic and other minor surgery

– Pain relief in migraine

– Pain in dysmenorrhea

Dosage & Administration

The recommended dose is 100 mg – 200 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses.
Children: Safety and efficacy of Diclofenac in children has not been established.

Side Effects

Generally, this drug is well tolerated. However, few side effects including headache, rash, dizziness, blood disorders, ulceration of the stomach or intestine may be seen after administration with this drug.

Precautions

This medicine should be used with caution as mentioned below:
– Asthma or history of asthma
– Blood clotting disorders
– Blood disorders
– Crohn’s disease
– Current or previous heart failure
– Current or previous high blood pressure (hypertension)
– Decreased heart function
– Decreased kidney function
– Decreased liver function
– Elderly people

Use in Pregnancy & Lactation

This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnancy, particularly the third trimester, unless considered essential by your doctor.
Seek medical advice from the doctor.
The medicine passes into the breast milk, but at normal doses it is unlikely to harm the baby. Discuss with the doctor.

Drug Interaction

Diclofenac may increase the blood levels of lithium, digoxin and methotrexate. There may be an increased risk of bleeding from the gut if diclofenac is taken with blood thinning or anti-clotting medicines such as warfarin.

Over Dose

Symptoms following acute NSAID overdoses have been typically limited to lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and epigastric pain, which have been generally reversible with supportive care. Manage patients with symptomatic and supportive care following an Diclofenac Potassium overdosage.

Storage

Do not store above 30 C. Keep away from light and out of the reach of children.
