ANTIHYPERTENSIVES: Furosemide + Spironolactone

Indication

Frulac20: Congestive heart failure, essential hypertension, liver cirrhosis with ascites, edema, hyperaldosteronism.

Frulac-40: Indicated for previously stabilized patients requiring higher dosage of Spironolactone and Frusemide. 

Contraindication

Frulac®- 20 and Frulac®- 40 are contraindicated in acute renal insufficiency, and in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Furosemide or Spironolactone.

Dosage & Administration

Frulac®- 20: 1 to 4 tablets daily (50 to 200 mg of Spironolactone and 20 to 80 mg of Furosemide) according to the patient’s response.

Frulac®- 40: 1 to 2 tablets daily (50 to 100 mg of Spironolactone and 40 to 80 mg of Furosemide) according to the patient’s response.

Side Effect

Common adverse reactions that are known to be associated with Frulac®- 20 and Frulac®- 40 are fatigue, blood disorders, skin rashes, cramping, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, pancreatitis, jaundice, anorexia, vasculitis, tinnitus, loss of hearing, vertigo, dizziness, paresthesiasis, vomiting or abdominal pain, hyperglycemia, hypotension, gynecomastia, irregular menstrual cycle, disturbances in the levels of electrolytes in the blood, impotence.

Precaution

It is recommended that individuals taking this medicine have their fluid and electrolyte balance monitored regularly. Frulac®- 20 and Frulac®- 40 should be used with caution in diabetes, prostatic hypertrophy, hypotension, hypovolemia. May cause vocal changes.

Drug Interaction

When Frulac®- 20 or Frulac®- 40 is taken together with ACE inhibitors or potassium salts there is an increased risk of hyperkalemia. Spironolactone increases the levels of cardiac glycosides such as digoxin in the blood. Corticosteroids may also cause potassium loss and severe depletion may occur if they are used with Furosemide. When taken together with drugs that decrease blood pressure there is an increased risk of a large drop in blood pressure and fainting. The blood pressure lowering and diuretic effects of Furosemide may be reduced or abolished when used together with indomethacin and possibly other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Use Pregnancy Lactation

Frulac®- 20 and Frulac®- 40 should be used with caution during pregnancy and only if the expected benefit to the mother is greater than the possible risk to the fetus. Frulac®- 20 and Frulac®- 40 pass into breast milk. It is recommended that mothers should avoid using this medicine while breastfeeding.

Storage

Store in a cool (below 30 ºC) and dry place, protect from light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
