Deconil
ANTICOUGHS: Butamirate Citrate
Indication
Deconil is indicated for dry cough of any etiology, pre- & post-operative cough and whooping cough.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient.
Dosage & Administration
Deconil Syrup: Children 3-6 years of age: 5 ml, 3 times daily
Children 6-12 years of age: 10 ml, 3 times daily
> 12 years of age and adults : 15 ml, 3-4 times daily
Deconil Tablet: Adults: 2 to 3 tablets daily at 8 to 12 hours intervals
Adolescents (over 12 years of age): The recommended dose is 1 to 2 tablets daily
Side Effect
Deconil is well tolerated. In rare cases, skin rash, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness have been reported. They disappear after reduction of the dosage or discontinuation of the drug.
Precaution
Butamirate Citrate should not be used during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Drug Interaction
Concomitant use of expectorants may lead to retention of mucous in the respiratory system, which can increase the risk of bronchospasm and airway infection.
Use Pregnancy Lactation
No studies have been conducted in pregnant women; therefore as a precaution it is recommended that Butamirate should not be used in the first trimester of pregnancy. During the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, Butamirate should only be used if absolutely necessary and indicated by a physician but with caution.
Storage
Store in a cool dry place, away from light (below 30 ºC). Keep all medicine out of reach from children.
