Aprocin (Ciprofloxacin)
Description
Aprocin contains Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride USP.
Presentation
Aprocin®-500 Tablet: Each film-coated tablet contains Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride USP equivalent to Ciprofloxacin 500 mg.
Aprocin® Taste Masked Pellets for Suspension: After reconstitution, each 5 ml suspension contains Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride USP equivalent to Ciprofloxacin 250 mg.
Indications
Ciprofloxacin is indicated for the following infections: Urinary tract infections, Acute sinusitis, Lower respiratory tract infections, Skin and skin
structure infections, Infectious diarrhea, Typhoid fever (Enteric fever), Bone and joint infections, Acute uncomplicated cystitis in females, Chronic bacterial prostatitis, Uncomplicated cervical and urethral gonorrhea etc.
Dosage & Administration
Adults:

Severe/Complicated 750 mg b.i.d 4 to 6 weeks
Chronic bacterial prostatitis Mild/Moderate 500 mg b.i.d 28 days
Urethral & cervical
Uncomplicated 250 mg single dose
Gonococcal infections
Children:
Age over 1 year: Usually 5-15 mg/kg body weight twice daily. In acute pulmonary exacerbation of cystic fibrosis 20 mg/kg body weight twice daily.
The prepared suspension is to be consumed within 14 days of preparation if kept in room temperature or in a refrigerator. Shake the bottle well before use.
Contrainidications
Ciprofloxacin is contra-indicated in patients who have shown hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or other quinolones.
Warning & Precautions
Ciprofloxacin should be used with caution in epileptics and patients with a history of CNS disorders. Crystalluria related to the use of Ciprofloxacin has been reported. Patients receiving Ciprofloxacin should be well hydrated and excessive alkalinity of the urine should be avoided.
Side effects
Ciprofloxacin is generally well tolerated. The most frequently reported side effects are nausea, diarrhea, rash, retinal detachment, tendinitis & tendon rupture.
Drug interaction
Increased plasma levels of theophylline have been observed following concurrent administration with Ciprofloxacin. Ciprofloxacinsuspension should not be administered within 4 hours of medications containing magnesium, aluminum, calcium, or iron salts as interference with absorption may occur.
Use in special groups
Ciprofloxacin is not recommended during pregnancy & lactation.

Aprocin®-500 Tablet: Box containing 30 tablets in the blister pack.
Aprocin® Taste Masked Pellets for Suspension: Box containing two bottles, large bottle containing Ciprofloxacin pellets, and a small bottle containing diluent for reconstitution of 60 ml suspension.
