Locaine (Lidocaine HCI)
Therapeutic Group : Anesthetic
Presentation:
Locaine Injection: Each ml contains Lidocaine Hydrochloride USP 20 mg.
Indications:
– To anaesthetize the area of the body where surgery is to be performed.
– To provide pain relief in labour and after surgery.
Dosage & Administration:
The dosage is adjusted according to the response of the patient and site of administration.
Adult: For healthy adults, the maximum individual dose should not exceed 4.5mg/kg of body weight and in general it is recommended that the maximum total dose does not exceed 300 mg.
Pediatrics: Children should be given reduced doses commensurate with their age, weight and physical condition.

Contrainidications:
Patients with a known history of hypersensitivity to local anaesthetic of amide type or to other components of the solution.
Warning & Precautions:
Lidocaine should be used with caution in patients with epilepsy, congestive cardiac failure, bradycardia or respiratory depression.
Side effects:
In common with other local anaesthetics, adverse recations to Lidocaine are rare. In some cases dizziness, nervousness, drowsiness, blurred vision, hypotension, bradycardia etc. may occur.
Drug interaction:
Precaution should be taken when usage of Propranolol, Cimetidine , Antipsychotic therapy, Antimigraine therapy with Lidocaine may increase the risk of serious side effects.
Use in special groups:
Pregnant Women: Although animal studies have revealed no evidence of harm to the foetus, it should not be administered during early pregnancy unless the benefits are considered to outweigh the risk.
Lactation: Lidocaine & its metabolites are excreted in the breast milk. Caution should be taken when it is using in nursing mother.
Pediatrics: Children should be given reduced doses commensurate with their age, weight and physical condition.
Geriatrics: Elderly patients may be more sensitive to systemic effects and may require dose reductions.

Locaine Injection: Each pack contains 1 vial of 50 ml Lidocaine Hydrochloride USP Injection.
