Presentation:

Balancia Tablet: Each film coated tablet contains Citicoline Sodium INN equivalent to Citicoline 500 mg.

Pharmacology:

Citicoline is a brain nutrient which increases the levels of several important neurotransmitters including acetylcholine, dopamine & noradrenaline. It helps to maintain the structural integrity & signaling roles for neuronal cell membranes. Citicoline has shown neuroprotective effects in hypoxia and ischemia, as well as improved learning and memory performance of brain aging. Furthermore, Citicoline restores the activity of mitochondrial ATPase and of membranal Na+/K+ATPase, inhibits the activation of phospholipase A2 and accelerates the re-absorption of cerebral edema.

2. Cerebrovascular disease
3. Ischemic stroke
4. Head trauma or brain injury
5. Alzheimer’s disease
6. Parkinson’s disease

Contrainidications:

Citicoline is contraindicated in brain surgery. The drug is contraindicated for patients who have any hypersensitivity reactions to any components of the preparation .

Side effects:

Most common side effects of Citicoline are insomnia, headache, diarrhea, low blood pressure, nausea, blurred vision, chest pain etc.

Drug interaction:

Citicoline potentiates the effects of Levodopa. Citicoline should not be administered with medicine containing Meclophenoxate.

Use in special groups:

Use in pregnancy and lactation: Citicoline should be used in pregnancy and lactation only if the potential benefits justify the potential risks.
Use in infants and children: The use of Citicoline in pediatric patients has not been established. Use in renal impaired patients: No dose  adjustment is required in renal impaired patients & the usually recommended adult dose can be administered. Use in hepatic impaired patients: There is no risk of using Citicoline in hepatic impaired patients  .
