ANTIASTHMATICS: Salbutamol
Precaution
The usual adult dose is (4mg) two 5 ml spoonfuls (10 ml), 3 or 4 times per day which may be increased to a maximum of (8mg) four 5 ml spoonfuls (20 ml), 3 or 4 times per day. The minimum starting dose is (2 mg) one 5 ml spoonful (5 ml), 3 or 4 times per day.
Contraindications
Although intravenous salbutamol and occasionally salbutamol syrup are used in the management of uncomplicated premature labour, salbutamol presentations should not be used for threatened abortion during the first or second trimester of pregnancy.
Should not be used in patients hypersensitive to any of the product ingredients.
Dosage & Administration
Salbutamol is used to rapidly treat asthma, bronchospasm and reversible airways obstruction by widening the airways of the lungs.
Drug Interaction
This drug should not be used with the following medications because very serious, possibly fatal interactions may occur: Methyldopa, Theophylline, Aminophylline, Methyldopa, Drugs used for depression, Beta blockers for blood pressure or heart conditions e.g. propranolol , Diuretics (water tablets), Steroids, Digoxin
Side Effects
Salbutamol may cause fine tremor of skeletal muscle (particularly of the hands), palpitations, and muscle cramps. Tachycardia, headache, and peripheral vasodilatation have been reported after large dose. They usually disappear with continued treatment.

Orsal Syrup: Each amber color glass bottle contains 100 ml syrup.
Preparation
Orsal Syrup : Each 5 ml contains Salbutamol BP 2 mg.
