Description
Clotrimazole kills fungi and yeasts by interfering with their cell membranes. It works by stopping the production of ergosterol, which is an essential component of fungal cell membranes resulting in increased membrane permeability and leakage of essential constituents of the fungal cells.
Presentation
Aristen Sterile Eye Ointment: Each g contains Clotrimazole BP 10 mg.
Indications
Aristen Sterile Eye Ointment is indicated for the treatment of fungal keratitis due to filamentous fungi and Candida species.
Dosage & Administration
It should be applied thinly and evenly to the conjunctival sac every 4 hours daily or as advised by a physician.
Contrainidications
Clotrimazole ointment is contraindicated in individuals sensitive to its components.
Warning & Precautions
If irritation or sensitivity develops with the use of Clotrimazole ointment, treatment should be discontinued.
Side effects
Rarely patients may experience burning or irritation immediately after applying the ointment.
Drug interaction
Use in special groups
Use in pregnancy: Pregnancy category B. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women during the first trimester of pregnancy. Clotrimazole should be used only if clearly indicated during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Use in lactation: It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when Clotrimazole is used by a nursing woman.
Use in children: Safety and effectiveness in children have been established for Clotrimazole when used as indicated and in the recommended dosage.
